(break 12) day 13 – 22: portland to astoria and down the oregon coast

Yesterday we arrived in Gold Beach, OR. It’s an interesting place that I can’t totally figure out. Maybe because it’s not as obviously wealthy or hippy or dune buggy as other coastal towns we’ve been through. But not a bad place.

Our plan was to continue on today to finish the Oregon coast and enter California but rain caught up with us and we decided to call a day off. It’s good timing because my camera has been getting heavy with photos and my mind is starting to muddle campsites and coastlines. I don’t know how much I can type before the librarian kicks me off this computer so I’ll at least post what I imagine you’ve been drooling for: our daily mileage log!!

Day 13: 72k from Portland to Big Eddy Camp
91k to Astoria (motel)
78k to Nehalem Bay State Park
64k to Tillamook (RV Park)
90k to Devil’s Lake State Park, Lincoln City
46k to South Beach State Park, Newport
85k to Honeyman State Park
43k to Umqua Lighthouse State Park
78k to Bullards Beach State Park
Day 22: 99k to Gold Beach (RV Park)

The Oregon coast is as beautiful as you’ve likely heard it to be (if you haven’t already been). I’ve posted more photos to flickr and hope to write a few short updates from my iPhone in the next day. Sort of wishing I had a netbook…

  • Good job guys! Good to see you made it to Astoria! But dang, ya missed Cape Lookout state park campground outside of Tillamook, which has got to be the best camping spot on the coast! Good luck in California!
