They always play the music I want to hear. Not just want to, but almost need to. Except for right now. This will change soon I hope. Otherwise they do a great job.
Later…
I am home from my visit to Calhoun’s. Phillip joined me for some studying and left before I to catch a bus. Unfortunately he had the wrong stop so when I made my way home, he still had a 20 minute wait. I stayed and chatted to keep him company. Another student waiting for the bus joined our conversation 10 minutes later with a, “do you guys know if the buses are even running now?”. I had checked the schedule online before leaving Calhoun’s and was able to confirm that yes, one would be along soon. Eventually it got there, they left, and I headed home on foot.
Once inside, it occured to me how the night’s events had been affected by having company in a public place, by having a friend along opposed to being alone. If I had remained at Calhoun’s alone the whole time I would have most likely not completed as much work, not stayed as long, not waited at a bus stop for a while, and not listened in on New York conversations between Phillip and this other guy. Another example:
There was the sweetest most adorable golden retriever pup outside Calhoun’s, leashed to a table. Every girl that walked by stopped to pet, pat and gush over this dog. Had I been alone I would stayed at my table by the window and only watched the dog receiving affection. Fortunately since someone could watch over my belongings, I was able to go outside and play with the puppy. The puppy belonged to one of the baristas who came outside for a smoke while I was there. I found out that Jake, the puppy, was 9 months old and needed to get out of the house for a while. He’d been napping all day and was full of energy.
It is only two examples, but it has given me something more to think about then I would had I gone out and spent the whole time alone. Not only did I have the company of a friend, but that presence made way for even more interaction.
