There is no right and wrong but it is wrong that hair elastics and bobby pins are not standard office supply stocks. My hair, it’s in my face and that’s why I can’t concentrate on my literature review. But what I’m really thinking about besides my distracting hair are the interesting questions that arise when you want your ethics to include action as well as acceptance. You see someone doing something that you don’t agree with on a number of levels, some personal, some not personal, and you think you should say something. On the other hand, you want to be accepting and you fear your discomfort with what they are doing is caused by pissiness rather than actual awareness. Like when I sometimes wish that everyone was forced to quit smoking but inside I know this is less about me wanting to save the environment or save health and more about me being jealous that they get to smoke and I don’t.
Oh, and I meant to post this article, “Cloudy With a Chance of Chaos”, the other day because it is a pretty good read. What it made me think? I grew up with 20th century desires and I need to start the process of ridding myself of them.
